Who can participate in this research study?
Your child may be able to take part in this study if they:
- Are 10 to 17 years old
- Have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
- Are currently being treated with diet, exercise, and metformin or basal insulin, or both medications
What’s involved with study participation?
There are up to 14 in-person visits and 6 phone visits throughout the duration of the study, which can last up to 60 weeks. Approximately 90 participants will take part.
The first visit (Visit 1) is screening, where the study team will check to see if your child qualifies to participate. If they qualify, you and your child will attend a second screening visit (Visit 2) to complete a series of health assessments. During Visit 2, both of you will also review the study, receive study supplies and training, and receive instructions for diet and exercise.
Your next study visits will be a variety of in-person and phone visits. The last visit to the study center will be a follow-up visit.
How long is this research study?
If eligible, participation can last up to 60 weeks and includes up to 14 in-person visits and 6 phone visits.
What is the medication being tested?
The study medication is a subcutaneous (under the skin) injection using a small needle.
What about my child’s current medications?
Do not discontinue any medication unless you are advised to do so by the study center staff or your child’s primary care physician.
Does participating in this study cost me anything?
There is no cost to you for participating in the study.
Why did my child disqualify?
Clinical research studies are designed in specific ways, and one or more of the answers that you provided were outside of the guidelines for this study. This does not mean your child will not qualify for different research studies.
